Rhianna: F is for FENDI

Here at Eyesite we love diversity. We love everyone's different style, fashion insight and interpretations of what's on trend. Our Eyewear Stylist Rhianna gives an insight into her favourite eyewear for Autumn/Winter '17:

Fendi is world renowned for their fun and bold designs, and this autumn/winter is exactly that. This seasons campaign is called "F en Folie" which is a reference to their playful and unexpected designs which will feature - they’ve even gone as far as to create an all-new face logo which displays the circular F.

My favourite piece of the collection is The Fendi Run Away sunglasses. The design is constructed of its bold, oversized, circular lenses with very fine metal sides and a double bridge - TOP TIP: keep a look out for large metal designs because they are a key trend across the catwalks this autumn/winter. The over exaggerated round shape of the sunglasses is what gives this piece it’s Fendi identity. The use of bold shapes and bright colours are key ingredients into making a Fendi design.

This season we are seeing a come back of large brand logos, which was featured throughout the early 00’s. An example of this is the Dior Overshine, frequently worn by Paris Hilton paired with her pink velour Juicy Couture tracksuit – an early 2000’s staple. Fendi, Dior and Givenchy, to name a few, are heavily displaying this trend in their designs. Not forgetting the most iconic accessory of 2017: The double G Gucci belt. Every VIP has been pictured wearing it and every fashion blogger has to have it

Which brings me nicely back to the Fendi Run Away. Keeping in suit the front lenses feature a large stamped F logo covering the front entire lens. The logo is then mirrored to make the sunglasses pop even more, this has Fendi written all over it– literally.

I believe what makes these tone-on-tone sunglasses unique is how the frame extends above the surface area of the lens giving them an outline effect for extra definition, once again proving to me why I love these over-sized sunnies so much! A colour for every occasion this piece features five fun colour ways: red, brown, pink, blue and black. So the question is; which colour will we see you rocking this Autumn/Winter?

Pastel Perfect

We suggest going nude this season.  For real. While there will always be pride of place for a bold staple in the collection, try lightening the mood! Good use of pastels, nudes and clear acetates with your specs, can offer great contrast and pair well with late Indian summer whites, beiges and neutral outfits. Exciting times for the luxury Swiss powerhouse, as Chopard collaborate with Rihanna to launch their first jewellery collection, whilst giving us plenty to drool over with 2 limited edition masterpieces....

The “Precious” Special Edition has been designed as a tribute to the 70th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, an official Chopard partner for twenty years. The jewellery-glasses designed by De Rigo and Chopard flawlessly embody the incomparable atmosphere of the Festival: a blend of sophistication, glamour and seduction. The metal rims have been superimposed over thick lenses to create an original “clip-on” effect. Luminous and sophisticated, the rims in 23-carat gold plated metal are enhanced by clear crystals for the rose gold version and brown for its red counterpart, all applied by hand on the extension of the lenses. The round and feminine shape creates the appearance of a sparkling cloud, reminiscent of the dazzling splendour of “Precious Chopard” jewellery.

Spreading the Sparkle - Jimmy Choo SS'17

When we heard Jimmy Choo were experimenting with (what was described as) 'glitter' a few seasons back, there were more raised eyebrows than champagne flutes. But never has the very famous phrase "don't judge the specs by its marketing pack" been more apt, (especially if the pack is covered in Jimmy Choo glitter)!!

Fast forward a couple of seasons to SS'17, Jimmy Choo have perfected what is categorically NOT the glitter we had feared, but instead the most delightful crystal powdered fabric,  that compliments a strong mix of vibrant colours in both classic and more directional shapes. In fact such is the impact of their latest innovative designs, JC have created a new wave of fans who may not have entered into sparkly territory before now, but now find themselves spoilt for choice with a type of hip sparkle they can finally relate to. Genius. Understated, modern and fashion forward glitter. Bet you didn't think we could put those 5 words in the same sentence.

Showcasing more finesse with their use of sparkle - including glittered plex glass, swarovski 3D embelllishments and yet new colours of their crystal fabric; JC now seem to to be casually jogging across the tightrope that is jewellery eyewear. Having created this Summers coolest, most accessible and fashion forward jewellery collection, we can't wait to spread the sparkle this season!!

Willow Smith stars in Chanel's FW '16 / 17 campaign

It's the time to shine for the next generation - certainly as far as Chanel & the legendary Karl Lagerfeld are concerned. Following in the footsteps of the unmistakable Cara Delevingne and Lily Rose Depp, Chanel have sprinkled an extra helping of youthful stardust on recent campaigns. And the result? Well; Smith is viewed by Chanel as a face that embodies the spirit of her generation - and that very same energy has come across in Chanel's recent campaigns. The brand emits more pizzazz, edge and fire in its belly; perhaps 3 adjectives not regularly used to describe Chanel. We love the new campaign, naturally :) But what do YOU think? Behind the scenes in the lab

He's seen it all. Whether he's creating a custom made tint for a music video, fitting a mirrored lens to disguise a footballer on holiday, or just replacing a screw for your mother in laws reading glasses; "it's all in a days work" explains Miles; known to his colleagues as "The Wizard"...

For the most part, what happens in the lab, tends to, well... stay in the lab. It's a world of a thousand screws, tools and a carefully manned production line of different shapes, styles and colours heading towards their final destination. "It's unfamiliar territory for most, but has a unique sense of familiarity and reward to me, having worked here so long.  If I do manage to catch a glimpse in the media, of a piece I've been working on, it's great to see the end product!" Says Miles, who has handled a fair few well known frames in his 22 years in the job. "With that being said; it's all in a days work! Whatever job I receive in my lab, it's all about producing consistent high quality work. It's a key part of the overall process that you don't get to see or hear about too often."... Until now! Catch a glimpse of 'The Wizard' at work, as we go behind the scenes at the Eyesite laboratory.

Beverley store launch party

It's been a long road... but we are back and have finally opened the doors to our brand new Beverley store!

To all who turned up on the evening; we thank you for your support, and hope you all enjoyed a fantastic night. We managed to raise a very honourable amount for our partner clinic charity we are supporting in Ghana (so well done!). We would also like to say a big thank you to all of you who contributed in the design, logistics and fitting of the store - a video of which can be viewed on our facebook page! You all know who you are :)

So what's next? Good question. We welcome on board Cutler and Gross AND Victoria Beckham; two extremely influential brands both within the eyewear industry and of course the fashion industry at large. Both brands we feel will bring something fresh to our store, and compliment some of the amazing pieces we already stock.. so make sure you pop in and have a look.

Eyesite named in UK’s top 5

The National Optician Awards is the annual awards ceremony, honouring the the industry's leaders across 16 specialist categories. This years event, hosted by comedian Miles Jupp, saw Eyesite's Sophie Johnson honoured for her contribution to UK dispensing optics.

The panel heard testimonials from key industry sources, including the Harvey Nichols Personal Shopping Team, who paid tribute to Sophie for her distinct ability to find perfect styles for their staff and clients. Luxury brand managers also outlined Sophie's passion for the luxury fashion industry as a primary factor in Sophie and her team's success; pinpointing her unrivalled drive to surpass her clients growing expectations. Of the accolade Sophie said "A lot of hard work goes into what we do here at Eyesite, so it's always nice to attend the events that celebrate this fantastic industry. Our staff have a genuine passion for taking care of our customers and love bringing the most exciting pieces on the market to East Yorkshire. Working in this environment brings the best out of all of us here, and ultimately means our customers receive the highest levels of service along with the best style advice."
